Swindon to Stroud engineering work

Work will start at 12.30am on Tuesday 26 to 9am on Sunday 31 August to help keep the railway running safely and reliably for decades to come.

Rail, sleepers and ballast will be replaced in two areas between Swindon and Kemble. Black Dog bridge, that carries the railway over the B496 between Purton and Minety, will be repaired.

Maintenance will take place to ensure Sapperton tunnel, built in 1845, continues to be fit for a 21st century railway, equipment will be installed to monitor the line from the threat of landslips.

To allow us to work safely and efficiently, the railway will be temporarily closed between Swindon and Gloucester from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 August.
Buses will replace trains during this time.

The nature of our work means some additional noise and extra traffic is unavoidable but we’ll do our best to keep it to a minimum.
Residents and businesses close to the work have been informed.
